Cancer drugs are usually paid for by one of the following sources:
- Provincial Formulary: a list of drugs that are approved for coverage under the provincial government’s drug plan
- Federal Drug Benefit Programs: for eligible groups, the Government of Canada provides coverage
- Hospital administering the drug
- Special funding programs by provincial ministry of health
- Private insurance
In cases where a drug is not covered or only partially covered, there may be assistance available to patients who are unable to afford the treatment. Ask your healthcare team about financial resources that may be available to you.
